Roy Hawkesford has been a Jazz musician and teacher for many years, with a particular love of the great and now sadly late, Frank Sinatra. Roy has now retired from teaching music to concentrated on setting up a MIDI based studio for recording backing tracks and writing arrangements for his own performances. He started to use Band-in-a-Box to help put together ideas and speed up the development of new arrangements and realized that using the chords from the sheet music did not always produce what he was hearing on the recordings. Roy set about listening to the recordings and inputting the chords that were actually being played on them and has now built up a collection of 50 plus Sinatra classics using basically the sextet versions from the 1959 and 1962 live albums. To further enhance these arrangements, Roy has also produced 8 new styles for Band-in-a-Box to make the arrangements as authentic as possible within the limits of the program. All in all, Roy has produced a collection of very professional arrangements of Sinatra classics and 8 new styles that can be used with other arrangements as well as these.

Here are the 8 great new styles contained on this disk:

• ~BALLAD.STY This is a typical lilting backing for slow to medium tempo songs, with piano, bass, drums and laid-back vibes which add to the texture of the arrangements. There is a two-to-the-bar feel in the substyle "a", and walking bass in "b".
• ~ONE4MYB.STY Another ballad style, designed to work with "One For My Baby"; the ‘Bill Miller' piano dominates substyle "a", and strings "b", plus bass, guitar and light drums.
• ~MEDIUP5.STY A classic style for medium to up-tempo songs, with the vibes to the fore over the guitar, bass and drums. A busy two-to-the-bar feel on "a" and a ‘pushy' four-to-the-bar on "b".
• ~NORVO6.STY An alternative ‘swinging' style to MEDIUP5.STY, but without guitar. Once again with bouncy vibes to the fore.
• ~SLOMED4.STY Ideal for slow-to-medium tempo songs, with a straight feel in "a" and with a real swing in "b". This has vibes, piano, bass and drums and features guitar in "b".
• ~STRING4.STY An alternative style to ~ONE4MYB.STY but with a different feel; features piano, guitar, bass and drums on "a", while strings replace the piano on "b". (Playing the melody on vibes will sound effective.)
• ~STRSWIN.STY As ~STRING4.STY, except that it has more of a swing feel in "a", more appropriate for "Willow Weep For Me", etc.
• ~UPTEMP2.STY For up tempo songs where an uncompromising ‘jazz' feel is required; relaxed in "a" but going for it in "b". Vibes lead the piano, bass and drums trio throughout.
