Introducing: Norton Music's Mix & Match Mega Styles
Have you ever programmed a song into Band-in-a-Box that had a definite A, B and C section and wished you had a style with three or more substyles? I certainly have, and from what I read in my mailbox and in the Band-in-a-Box forums, I'm not the only one!
For years people have asked PG Music to allow more than two substyles in Band-in-a-Box so that they could have different musical parts for an A, B, C and/or D section of music. Unfortunately PG hasn't been able to do that and still keep backwards compatibility with the old styles and old versions of BiaB.
Bob "Notes" Norton has figured out how to get around that limitation - Norton Music's Mix & Match Mega Styles. With the NM-M&MM-Styles you can have up to 4 great sounding substyles in any song. PLUS you can have up to 16 different combinations of the A and B substyles allowing your music to have more variety.
Norton Music's Mix & Match Mega styles are actually a pair of different but similar and compatible styles. You can play either of the styles by themselves or mix and match them as you see fit simply by changing the style anywhere in the song and assigning an A or B part marker. (All modern versions of Band-in-a-Box allow you to change styles.) You can even have a song with a different A, B, C and/or D section in it. Norton's "Mix & Match Mega Styles" give you 16 different combinations of A, B, C and D sections.
Plus these styles are Norton Music styles, the only styles recommended by Electronics Musician, Keyboard and other leading music magazines, so they will sound great and make your music sound more professional -- whether or not you use the A, B, C and/or D substyle feature!!!
Normal styles give you only three variations.
- All A Substyle
- All B Substyle
- A single combination of A & B substyles
Instead of the 3 substyle variations you get with normal styles, here are the 16 variations you can get with the NM-M&MM-Styles. To make it easy, I've named the compatible styles the same name and added an X or Y suffix. For example you will have a 6/8 Blues X style (with A and B substyles) and a 6/8 Blues Y style (with A and B substyles).
Singles:
- All X-A (X style A substyle)
- All X-B (X style B substyle)
- All Y-A (Y style A substyle)
- All Y-B (Y style B substyle)
Two substyle combinations:
- X-A & X-B (X style A substyle and X style B substyle)
- X-A & Y-A (X style A substyle and Y style A substyle)
- X-A & Y-B (simile)
- X-B & Y-A
- X-B & Y-B
- Y-A & Y-B
Three substyle combinations:
- X-A & X-B & Y-A
- X-A & X-B & Y-B
- X-A & Y-A & Y-B
- X-B & Y-A & Y-B
- Y-A & X-A & X-B
Four substyle combination:
- X-A & X-B & Y-A & Y-B
Norton Music Style Disks have been recommended in Keyboard Magazine, Electronic Musician Magazine, The Micro Computer Journal, Music & Computers Magazine, Jazz Times Magazine, on the Internet , the McGraw-Hill textbook, Multimedia Literacy by Dr. Fred T. Hoffstetter, and by word of mouth in over 80 different countries by musicians like you.
The best way to describe what is on this disk is to list the styles and post the demo songs. So here we go:
Note: The audio MP3 files were recorded using Band-in-a-Box and the Edirol VSC3 Virtual Sound Canvas synthesizer. They were encoded at a low bit-rate and in mono so they will download fast, even for those with a dial-up connection. The low bit-rate results in low fidelity, but you will still be able to hear all the parts, and you won't have to wait long for the music to start. In most cases the demo plays only a few bars of the A section, a few bars of the B section, and the ending. In other words, what you hear is only a fraction of what you get.
Suggested musical applications for each style are written in RED:
